Mercer describes the devastating effect an enemy artillery unit’s fire has on his troop when it begins to unleash a flanking barrage of cannon on his heretofore protected troop.

A Close Call:
During the battle when his unit was under fire Mercer relates the moment when he was almost killed by enemy fire.

Post Battle:
The Battle of Waterloo having ended, Mercer walks the field of battle noting the carnage under to moonlight glow.
