Did you know... wormwood is best known as the active ingredient in the alcoholic drink absinthe? A whole history could be written about the rise and fall of absinthe as an addicting and deteriorating drink that led to serious mental disturbance, seizures and sometimes death - this may be why the Romantics were drawn to it as an escape. It is illegal now, but if you want to see what it did to people, you need look no farther than some 19th century cafe scenes.
